As the fashion fraternity gears up for the upcoming Lakme Fashion Week, which commences on August 24th in Mumbai, we wanted to share few of our favorite designers and their designs from the recently concluded Bangalore Fashion Week – Winter Festive – 15th edition. As Preethi mentioned in an earlier post, we only had a chance to attend Day 3 and Day 4. It has now been two weeks since BFW, but we continue to be amazed and awe-struck by some of the collections that were featured.
Designer Kamal Raj Manickath’s Soucika* was the first show that we got to be a part of on Day 3. The theme was “Alice In Desiland” and the entire set up was nothing short of being magical. The whimsical setting transported me back to the days when “Alice In Wonderland” was my every night’s bed time read. Models wearing bright hues and dreamy lehangas took the stage. Raw silk, big floral motifs and bright colors were at the core of this collection. Kamal understands what the contemporary Indian women want and delivers just that. If you guys like what you see here, you should definitely check out Soucika’s stores in Koramangla and Indiranagar.
Next up was Rana’s by designer Kshitija Rana. With the festive and wedding season around the corner, her collection was geared towards the modern Indian bride. During my brief chat with the designer, she mentioned that she wants to give the modern Indian bride a part of our heritage. She achieves this by featuring intricate hand work done by the artisans who have been associated with her family for over 40 years! Hailing from the textiles background, and married into the family that has been catering to all the Maharajas and Maharanis of Jaipur for a long time, she has a deep understanding of the choices of the royalty and integrates that into her designs.
Next up was Maanay by Ashok Maanay. The minute one hears the name Ashok Maanay, the mind drifts in the direction of royalty and everything about it. This time however, he combined elegance and simplicity in a beautiful collection, Serenity*, dedicated to his mother. His menswear featured voluminous fabrics of whites and off-whites styled to perfection.
Next up was the most awaited finale of Day 3, Abhishek Dutta. The Kolkata designer took a gothic route and offered something so unusual yet extremely stylish. The stage had a dark-soul vibe with abandoned tires strategically placed on the ramp. Bold prints and bold make up was the perfect end to an otherwise long day. We throughly enjoyed this collection* by him.
That was a wrap for Day 3 and we hope you all enjoyed this post as much as we enjoyed putting it together. We have another post that includes all the details about Day 4. Stay tuned and watch this space for more updates.
Until then, stay glamorous! 🙂
