Maybelline Creamy Mattes Review and Swatches

Maybelline is one of my favourite drug store brands to shop from.  Way back in 2014 or 2015, I remember the whole beauty blogging community going crazy over the Maybelline Creamy Mattes lipstick range when it first launched in the US market. After reading one review after another and watching one too many swatch videos on YouTube, I just couldn’t wait to try these lipsticks on.

When Maybelline finally launched the Creamy Mattes range in India in early 2017, my joy knew no bounds. I rushed to the nearest Health & Glow and picked up a few colours I really wanted to try. Since the said purchase, these lipsticks have been a staple on my vanity and in my beauty bag that goes with me everywhere.

Now, I’ll quickly get to why I like (read obsessed) this particular range so very much and also show you a few swatches.

Maybelline Creamy Mattes

Packaging

There is nothing out of the ordinary in this area. It is the standard Maybelline lipstick packaging. A typical silver bullet with a square base and a semi transparent mauve lid. Sturdy enough to carry around everywhere without being worried about spillage and other mess of sorts.

Formula and Pigmentation:

This is where the Creamy Mattes get the gold star rating. The formula is just about right – it isn’t to matte so as to dry your lips but “creamy” enough to render a matte finish along with hydration. The formula might appear glossy upon initial application but it does dry down to a matte finish after a few minutes. These lipsticks are highly pigmented and one swipe will give you an opaque coverage.

Staying power and texture:

Due to their creamy finish, these lipsticks are not transfer proof. As you eat and drink throughout the day, the colour tends to wear off gradually. If no eating is involved it may last up to 4 hours. The texture is smooth and it does not settle into the fine lines of your lips, it just glides on like butter. This is exactly why these lipsticks are a perfect choice for every day use. They are also easy to reapply; this makes your touch-ups a mess-free affair.

Price:

This is the best part! When they launched this range, it was priced at Rs. 575 a piece. But now the price has been slashed down to  just Rs. 299 a piece. Almost half the price at which these lipsticks were launched!

This price combined with the great quality of these lipsticks make them one of the best drugstore lipsticks available in the market today. Go check them out!

You can purchase these from Nykaa, Amazon or any Maybelline counters in the stores.

Below are some swatches for your reference. We have included swatches on two different skin tones –  the one on the left (Preethi) is NC 44.5 (In MAC) while I am a NC 40 on right
